1929 Duesenberg J Lebaron “Sweep Panel” Dual Cowl Phaeton Supercharged

Chassis # 2158, Engine # SJ-292

Most frequently encountered of many Duesenberg Dual-Cowl Phaetons was the “Sweep Panel” model. This design, by Ralph Roberts of LeBaron, featured an inset panel which began at the radiator cap, broadened toward the cowl and swept into the door to terminate in a reverse curve. This demarcation line was often used for two-toning. It was the first of the phaetons to be offered on the J, and was one of two designs selected from several submitted by LeBaron in 1928. Built in 1929 and 1930 by Lebaron, the “Sweep Panel” design was later adapted by Duesenberg on another phaeton type built, as LeGrande, by Union City Body Company.
