1936 Bugatti Type 57S Surbaisse

1936 BUGATTI TYPE 57 SURBAISSE ROADSTER

The Surbaisse Roadster was one of the most famous of Jean Bugatti’s creations when it was displayed at the Paris Motor Show in 1936. The Surbaisse Roadster has been featured in many Bugatti books but unfortunately, the only example ever built was destroyed early in its life. This car was built in the 1950s.

A Type 57 engine and chassis were utilized and the painstaking attention to the bodywork and original details have led most people to believe that the original somehow has emerged.

The car was featured in Road & Track Magazine’s in June 1975 issue, when this car was owned by Tom Barrett of Scottsdale, AZ. At that time, the car was then finished in a cream exterior. This Bugatti joined our collection for the first time in 1989, and we have now sold the car for the second time only a short time ago.
