1962 Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupe
Chassis # 860458
Engine # R 1569-9
There were a total of eight E-Types Jaguars that raced at Le Mans in the 1960’s and three of them raced in 1962. This car is one of the three that raced in the 1962 French classic. Owned and driven by Englishman Maurice Charles and co-driven by fellow countryman John Coundley (car #8). The car experienced low oil pressure during the race and the motor expired after only three hours of racing. Out of a total of 55 entrants that year only eighteen cars finished the grueling race. The car was advertised in Autosport and sold after the race. It passed through numerous hands from 1962 until the mid 1980’s.
Then in the late 1980’s the car found its way to the Channel Islands (Guernsey) where it lay away in the backyard of Brian Hutchinson. A Jaguar repair shop owner by the name of Stanley Higgins bought the car and embarked on the lengthy restoration. With the end of the restoration in sight, Higgins decided to sell the car to focus on other endeavors. So Nigel Dawes, the famed collector and restorer, bought the car and oversaw the final part of the restoration. The car has been returned to its 1962 race configuration and all its glory and comes with a complete restoration folder.
